The Cottage in the Wood

Nestled in the heart of Whinlatter forest in Western Cumbria is this Michelin star restaurant with rooms. The first phase has been the complete refurbishment of the restaurant and reception areas.

To bring the outside in and reuse and recycle was at the forefront of this design. Connecting with nature was to me, the key.

We started with an inherited mid century sideboard and so the modern , paired down scheme evolved. Vintage and high street furniture and accessories were used in the reception areas, combined with a soft green palette from Farrow & Ball.

In the restaurant, textures and locally sourced craftspeople and products are put together to settle us into nature.

Herdwick wool banquette seating and felted table mats; moss bowls; handmade crockery plus art commissioned from a local artist embed the space into its environment.
